The Day after the Election

I woke up this morning not wanting to turn the TV on and read about 4 more years of George W. Bush. With my head telling me yes and my heart telling me no, I reached for the remote and turned on CNN to hear how Kerry was going to concede the election at 2pm. After watching the returns come in last night, I expected it--but it was different actually hearing it happen.

Last night was fun for the most part. Although I planned on getting drunk, I actually didn't have much to drink at all. I was pre-occupied with seeing the election results come in. It was disappointing to see the Presidential returns come in, but I was more anxious for my campaign and Megan's. Those results didn't come in until later that night. Ross won with over 65% of the vote and Dina lost by 3,000 votes. I knew Ross was going to win so I wasn't that excited, but I was really disappointed about Megan's race. Everyone thought she was going to win--I think that's why it was so disappointing.

Scott Lowe and Derrick Pearson came to the party. Here's a picture of the three of us:

I also saw a guy from my Mormon ward back home, Brian Swan. I was a little intoxicated when I talked with him, but I went up to him and said hi. The last time I saw him was at his mission farewell that I coincidentally went to because of Aunt Karen (she worked in the seminary when he went there). I mentioned to Brian that we only see each other at random places. He asked me who I lived with in Salt Lake and I said, "My boyfriend." It was interesting to see his facial expression when I said that--it's always interesting when I tell someone that didn't know.

Megan got really drunk (I saw her drink right out of a tequila bottle) and wanted to do something (this was at 3AM), so we went out to eat at Denny's. Here's a picture of that. You can see how drunk she is.

I told Megan that I was going to spend the night with her at the hotel. Adam had a room also, but he decided to go home. When he said that, Megan said, "Good. Now Jesse can sleep in your bed." Since I was going to sleep in another room, I told Megan that I was going to go home. She got mad and literally kicked me out of her room. On the way home, she sent me and Adam a text message saying, "Thanks for being such good friends. Next time you ever need a friend let the other know--not me."

This morning I went to the hotel to pick up Megan (since I had a hotel key), but she wasn't in her room. When I called, she didn't pick up. I text messaged her and asked where she was. Her response: "Not there." I knew she was really mad at me, but it was over a misunderstanding and she didn't clearly state that she wanted me to sleep over. I hate saying this because I'm a feminist, but now I understand why men are clueless when women get mad at them. The women don't clearly say what they want or are thinking.

I went over to her house and saw her walking home. She had taken TRAX home (I yelled at her for doing this) and didn't want to hang out with me. I convinced her to hang out with me and we spent the day together. I wanted to cheer her up because I knew how much Dina winning meant to her. We went to lunch at the Spaghetti factory, cleaned our cars, grocery shopped, and saw "The Manchurian Candidate" at the dollar movie. It was an enjoyable day overall.

Aunt Wendy called me in the morning to see how I was doing and I appreciated the gesture. It was really nice of her to do that. She told me she voted for President Bush, but voted Democrat in all other major races. We've talked politics for the last couple of months and it's cool to see her look at the issues and vote on what she believes. Most of my family would be Utah Democrats if they looked at the issues. It gives me hope!
