I was at a Republican Fundraiser!

Megan had tickets to the Salt Lake County Republican Lincoln Day Dinner since she works for the Credit Unions and asked me to accompany her. Not wanted to give up the chance at free food, I gladly told her I would love to go. All the powerful people of Utah were there:

Governor Mitt Romney of Massachusetts was the keynote speaker. Although he doesn't "know" if he's running for President, I think he will. The speech he gave sure sounded like a stump speech.

Senator Orrin Hatch. He was really nice.

Senator Bob Bennett. When I asked him for a picture, he said we had to shake hands because "that's how things are done in Washington."

Representative Rob Bishop (my Congressman). When I told him I was his constituant, he asked where I was from. After I told him Rose Park (a highly Democrat area), he said, "I need good people like you supporting me there." I walked away thinking, 'I didn't vote for you!"

Mayor Nancy Workman. I told her I was sure glad the courts found her not-guilty of the charges that caused her to resign during the election. I like Nancy Workman because she tried out for the University of Utah football team.

I took this picture to compare it to the meal I had yesterday at the NCCJ dinner. Republicans know how to eat!

This is my favorite picture from the evening- Elizabeth Smart and her family. When I saw them, I told myself that I had to get a picture with them or I would regret it for the rest of my life! After the program was over, I mustered up the courage and said hello to Ed Smart and told him I was glad that Elizabeth was back. I told him that I had prayed for his family and it was an honor to meet them. Then came the pitch--"I would be honored to have a picture with you and your family."

Ed Smart was really uneasy (as you can tell from the picture), but Elizabeth said it was okay. After the picture, I thanked them and walked off, feeling like I had used them. I really wanted a picture with them because it was such a huge story in Utah and around the nation, but I felt badly because she was kidnapped and raped and I wanted a picture with her. I didn't feel to sour about the whole thing because the Smart's wrote a book and did lots of TV interviews and kind of exploited her. Plus, I wouldn't have this picture to show my friend Robb Henry.
