Jobs and the Jobless

Today was a so-so day. I totally skipped school because I wanted to...well, I stayed up until 2am playing Civilization 3, trying to take over the world. I'm such a nerd.

Here's a funny story. I'm trying to get my cousin Charles a job with us at Intel. Earlier this week, I told him to come into our HR department and fill out an application. After telling my co-workers, someone told me he has to call HR and set up an appointment because a potential applicant has to take a typing test, a customer service test, and a simple computer knowledge test. This is a drastically different application process than I had. I simply had to fill out an application and then I had an interview. Have I really worked here for almost 3 years?

Anyway, I was in a quandary. Aunt Louise called me this morning and told me they were coming in at 1pm. I didn't want to call my boss Jessica and have her set up the appointment because Jessica has to eventually interview Charles. I didn't want her giving Charles help at the beginning of the process. I also did not want to call Louise and tell her they couldn't come today because they hadn't set up the appointment. So I took matters into my own hands.

I went to the HR department personally and said, "Excuse me. I have an applicant coming in today at 1pm and he needs to fill out an application." Because I acted confidently and in charge, the secretary there said that would be fine. It was awesome! Charles came in later that day and took 2 hours to apply. I got to leave work and spend 2 hours talking with Aunt Louise.

Tonight, I was supposed to go with Aunt Louise and Grandma up to Odgen. As I waited for them to pick me up, I played Civ3. Louise called at about 6:30pm telling me they weren't going to go. Instead of calling someone to do something, I'm playing Civ3. I'm such a loser. I hope I do something fun tomorrow, but probably not.
