Customer Encounter

Anyone in the customer service "biz" will tell you that you need to be nice to the people you talk to--especially those who you call and can't see directly. If you are rude or mean, customer service folks will not help you as much as they will help people who are extremely gracious.

I just received a call from a guy who started the call badly. Then he proceeded to give me a part number of a computer power supply and told me he wanted information about it. When I asked him what product it was for, he said he didn't know. After searching for a bit, I told him that I couldn't find the part number in our database and he should try to find out what product it is for. He laughed like he thought I was stupid and said, "I've never given a company a part number and have them tell me that they needed to know what the product was for to find it."

I replied, "Well, I guess we are your first."

He said, "I'm just going to look on your website" and hung up.
