Graduation Day!

While everyone thinks I'm graduating today, I personally call it my pseudo-graduation. I still have to take two political science classes in the summer before I receive my bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. In the fall and spring of 2006, I will take five classes to earn a degree in speech communication, specializing in interpersonal communication. If I'm only five classes away, I might as well or I'll one day regret it. (Brian convinced me to do it)

I woke up and did some things before I took a shower and shaved. Unfortunately, Russell took a shower before me and didn't leave me any hot water. I took a cold shower, but I really wasn't bothered because I thought of how many people in the world would love to take a cold shower but are unable to.

Mom, Dad, Aunt Wendy, Amy, Carly, Russell, Brian, Megan and I went out to eat beforehand at the Red Iguana. I was going to go to the Blue Iguana, but it's harder to find and I wanted to make everything as easy as possible. We had a great time eating together (even though everyone was 15 minutes late--except for Megan who was 10 minutes late).

The actual ceremony of graduation was rather boring. The dean spoke, presented stuff to other people, and then they started calling our names. I sat next to a girl named Lauren I knew from my internship at the Utah Legislature and her friend. This guy who was in my Latin American class sat on my left, but I didn't say anything to him. When they announce your name over the loudspeaker at the Huntsman Center, you write your name on a card that one of four announcers reads (it makes the whole process go faster). My name was read and the announcer said, "Jesse Michael Nix IV." I figured my name by itself was boring, so I added the number since I'm the fourth graduate of the University of Utah in my family (Grandpa Nix, Father Nix, my sister Amy, and me).

When we sat back down, I started talking to the guy who previously sat on my left. I wish I had started talking to him earlier (like in class) because I found out he had previously gone on a mission, went to BYU, and was kicked out of BYU because he was gay. I told him I had the same things happen to me (minus the mission). It just goes to show how interesting people sit next to me in class, but never really get to know each other. My thoughts go to the TV show Lost, where complete strangers are stranded on an island and they get to know each other very well. I wonder how many people would be good friends of mine, but I never introduce myself to them.
I also thought it was ironic that out of everyone, I sat next to a gay guy.

Here are some pictures from graduation. I'm was concerned about the quality and amount of pictures that were going to be taken, so I was stern to the people who took pictures: Megan, Russell, and Brian. Pictures are forever and in 20 years, no one will remember me being "mean," but I will remember the great pictures that were taken.

Everyone at my Graduation!

I'll have to photoshop my brothers in this picture.
