In Provo with my Parents

The State Democratic Convention was today at the Salt Palace and since I'm a delegate I had to go. Some caucuses met at 8am, but there was no way I was going to get out of bed and go vote for a new chair of the Stonewall Caucus. I also didn't want to go because both Michael Braxton and Mike Picardi were running for chair and I didn't want to vote for either person, both whom I like (yes, a convenient excuse).

I rolled out of bed and got to convention around 10am, but that was a mistake. People were just making speech after speech and it got really boring. I'm glad Megan and Anne were there to keep me company. The reason I didn't want to be there was because I wanted to be with my parents since they are leaving on Monday. I stayed for the first ballot and voted for Wayne Holland, then went to pick Russell up so we could hang out with Mom and Dad.

My parents had to go to Provo to talk to this girl from Painted Post who is getting married to a guy who can't speak English. They wanted to make sure this guy wasn't a weirdo who was marrying her for reasons other than love. Since I wanted to just spend time with my parents, I went down to Provo with them. On the way down, my parents were driving my nuts because they had no real plans. Besides talking to this girl, my parents did not have strict plans and we argued about what to do. Russell and I ended up going to BYU to do research on my mother's paper while my parents talked to this girl.

When they were done with that, we went to the Creamery and I got a raspberry ice-cream cone. We got hungry and ended up eating at a Salvadorian restaurant that had awesome pupusas. I also saw Ben Cosby, a guy in my senior seminary class. His mother was one of the seminary teachers. When I saw him, I knew his first name but not his last--and it worried me that I had his first name wrong. To cover, I walked up to him and said in a joking manner, "Hey, do you remember who my senior seminary teacher was?" He laughed and said, "Sister Cosby." It was a good cover and I felt proud that he didn't know that I forgot his name.

After dinner, we went to see the Pullan family. They are friends of my parents and are great people. They used to live in the same apartment complex as us and we played with their kids. I love watching my parents converse and laugh with old friends--and today was no different. We were all laughing so much that our stomachs hurt. I hope my friends stay lifelong friends--my parents hadn't seen the Pullan's in seven years but that didn't matter.

We were supposed to be back in Salt Lake at 6pm, but we didn't get there until 10pm. I had a really fun day.
