My Super Saturday

After a fun-filled family Friday night, I went over to my Aunt Wendy's to do some yardwork. Before I went, I cleaned my house because Brian came home tonight. It sounds weird to say this, but I'm trying to be a better "housewife" for Brian--but it's not because I want to fall into stereotypical gender roles. Brian covers the rent for me because I don't have enough money, so obviously I should do more house work than him. Everytime he goes out of town, I want the house to be clean for him.

I was supposed to clear the weeds in Wendy's yard and wore ratty work clothes to get the job done. When I got there, she had to run to Lowe's and I told her I wanted to join her. Growing up, I always loved going Saturday shopping with my parents and I knew going with Wendy would be almost the same.

Little did I know that this "quick" trip to Lowe's to get flowers would turn into an all day event. We spent an hour at Lowe's--Wendy got flowers for her garden and I bought some plants for Brian. As we were leaving Lowe's, Wendy asked me if I was hungry. When I told her yes, she said, "Let's go to Sam's Club because they have free samples on Saturday!" We wandered the store shopping and eating.

She bought me lunch at Wendy's (how ironic, huh!) and I didn't even finish my fries because of my diet (and not finishing my fries is an amazing feat for me).

As we sat in the car, I asked Wendy about the diet she is on. The only time I've seen my Aunt Wendy thin is in wedding pictures. She's always been a bit bigger than the rest of my aunt's, but that means there's always been more of her to love. She told me that last year, she hit a point where she didn't want to be big anymore so she went to an L.A. Weight Loss center and signed up for their program. Since starting in November 2004, she has lost over 30 pounds and has gone from a size 20 to a 16 small. Her goal is a 12 and I know she will make it because she's an amazing woman with an amazing drive that helps her achieve anything she wants. Megan is a lot like her (which is probably why I love Megan so much).

We went to Kohl's and Wendy went clothes shopping, something, she told me, that she hasn't done for years. Normally, shopping with women is really, really, really, boring, but I had a fantastic time. It was so cool so see this woman that I love so much finally fitting into really cute clothes that she's always wanted to wear. Wendy told me that all her clothes are really old and she wants to look stylish...she sounded like my mother. I loved helping her find the right sizes, waiting for her as she tried them on, and then came out to show me how she looked--and when something fit, she beamed! I love seeing people when they are really happy and elated about something.

I bought a new shirt for Brian to surprise him when he came home. My last paycheck had more money on it than I expected so I thought it would be nice to get Brian some presents. Wendy bought this thing for her backyard that came in a gigantic box. Wendy thought it would fit into her car and I argued with her, telling her it wouldn't fit. It was fun to argue because it reminded me how crazy she and my mother are.

We spent so much time shopping that by the time we finished, it was 6pm and I needed to get home and shower. Brian was getting home at 7pm and I wanted to look cute for him. I was so excited when he got home! I gave him all his presents (and I think I enjoyed giving him his presents more than he liked receiving them). We ate at Chili's, saw a girl from my parents church there but didn't say hi, and took home leftovers. We watched the season finale of Lost and I got really freaked out! If you don't watch Lost, they are doing re-runs and I highly recommend watching it.

Brian and I went to bed, but I fell asleep thinking about the Lost finale and being freaked out.
