Double-Dates
The normal (and successful) dating process goes like this:
- SINGLE: You date various people at the same time.
- SINGLE BUT EXCLUSIVE: You are still single but are only dating one person that you really like..
- BOYFRIEND/GIRLFRIEND TITLE: You quickly find yourself spending most of your free time with this person that you really like. You give each other titles.
- MARRIAGE: You have a ceremony with the support of family and friends and commit to love this person for the rest of your life.
I love double dating with couples; in fact, it is one of my most favorite things to do. You can "date" other people without actually dating them or feel the anxiety of those dates you had when you were single. I have often thought that double-dating is more fun that single-dating just for that reason. Once, when Brian and I were having an argument, I told Brian that one of the reasons I was with him was because I liked the idea of being in a relationship. I do like the idea and I especially love the double-date idea.
Plus, people on double dates always look cute! Yes, aesthetics always come into play for me.
Tonight, Brian and I went on a double-date with Josh and Jeff. We went to dinner at Chili's and then went to see the movie Hauru no ugoku shiro. I really liked the movie (Brian didn't), but I enjoyed the fact that we were hanging out with Josh and Jeff even more.
My parents always went on double dates with other couples and my affection for those outings may stem from that, but I believe that double-dates (in addition to dates with your boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife) keep the fire alive between couples. Instead of stopping the dating stage at the third or fourth stage, I want to be able to rollerskate in Hawaiian shirts with another geriatric couple.
