Wal*Mart on Sunday's
The highlight of my day was going to Wal*Mart today with Brian to get various supplies and I realized something when I was there.
Most low and middle income people grocery shop on Saturday's and Sunday's.
I'm making a judgment call, but bear with me and hear my reasoning out. In low-income families, the single parent or both parents work to provide for the children. They work Monday through Friday at 9-5 jobs (probably longer than that) and the weekend is the only time they are able to go and grocery shop.
In high income families, a parent usually stays home and can grocery shop on Tuesday morning after their pilates. Alternatively, someone is hired to do the grocery shopping and does that on a weekday.
I'm not talking about the people that go to Lowes on Saturday to pick up things or teenagers that hang out at the mall on the weekends. They also usually have 9-5 jobs, but they spend their weekends doing leisurely activities, not the essential weekly grocery shopping.
Now I could be completely wrong about this, but I don't think I am. I'm reading a book on the economics of poverty and I'm thinking more about poverty than I ever have before. I think that's why I watched people at Wal*Mart.
