Flattery Never Hurts

If you've kept up with my graduation fiasco, you know that I have to take 2 classes this fall to actually earn my degree. My senior seminar will be on the effects of globalization and I will inevitably have to write a 20 page paper on the subject. When I do, I'll post it here (not that anyone will read it).

The other class I wanted to take was "International Relations of Africa," but the class was full. I was going to show up the first day of class to get it added, but I looked at the class register 2 days ago and saw that it was already overbooked. Because of this, I sent the following email to the professor:

Professor Lehman,

I had not planned on sending this email, but when I looked at how many seats were available for POLS 5460 (International Relations of Africa), I decided to email you immediately.

I've heard from various students that you are a great professor, so I am currently registered for your senior seminar on globalization. When I tried to register for your class on Africa, the class was full and I decided I should show up the first day of class to get an add code. Unfortunately, today I noticed that there are 33 students enrolled in a class for 30.

Professor Lehman, I only need your two classes to graduate and I want to know if I can get an add code from you for POLS 5460. It's the only 5000-level class that I can possible take with my work schedule. Additionally, I am immensely interested in Africa and two books I read this summer dealt with Africa: The End of Poverty by Jeffrey Sachs, and one of your required textbooks, Shake Hands with the Devil. I know I would be a great addition to your class.

Please let me know if I can receive an add code from you. If I cannot, I will still come to class the first day hoping that space opens up.

Thanks,
Jesse Michael Nix

I hope I didn't come off as desperate.

In any case, he emailed me back with an add code! I'm really excited to take the class (and earn his respect so I can get a letter of recommendation from him for law school).
