What's an Appetizer?

Megan asked me to babysit Mckenna tonight for about an hour. It was no trouble and I thought it would be fun, so I picked her up from her house and drove to my grandparent's house to pick up my brother Benjamin.

After my brother gave my grandma and hug and said goodbye, I asked him if he got a good hug from her. He said yes, and I was glad; it may be the last time he'll see her alive. Yes, it's morbid, but it's a reality that needs to be dealt with.

We went back to Megan's house to watch Mckenna swim in the pool. As Ben and I tried to talk, she would interrupt us and say, "watch me!", "I can do this", etc. It's what every kid does, so we tried to persuade her to do things that would take a long time so we could talk. When she swam across the pool, Ben and I emptied our pockets at the same time in case we had to jump in the pool. We both thought it was funny that we had the same idea.

When Megan came home, Ben and I went to my house to watch TV. I wanted his last night in Utah to be special, so I took him to P.F. Changs for dinner. Because Brian got off work late, we made reservations for 11pm. The funniest moment of the night occurred when I asked Ben what appetizer he wanted. "An appetizer?" he said sarcastically. "I don't even know what that is!" Our parents never ordered appetizers when we went out to eat and Ben was making light of the fact that our parents were cheap.

Incidentally, we both ordered water.

Later that night, as I watched Ben pack, I knew I would miss him. He's a great kid and I'm looking forward to him getting older.
