My Thoughts on Parenting
Britney from work had her baby yesterday and I went to visit her this afternoon. I went with my co-worker Kim and we jammed in the car.
When we got to the hospital, they asked us for our names to check-in: "Jesse and Kim Hyte." It was really fun to pretend we were married because it made Kim become embarrassed.
Britney and Kevin were really cute with their baby. Also, the baby was actually cute! Normally, I think babies are ugly, but they really had a winner.
As we were about to leave, Kevin asked if we wanted to see the video of when she was born. It wasn't graphic or anything, but my favorite part was when the baby was handed to Britney and she started to cry. I was really touched and tears started to form in my eyes. I think that's when I realized it: I don't think I'll ever have kids of my own.
Genetically that is. I really want to adopt, but after seeing Britney and her baby, I would never want to deprive a child of their real parents. Brian and I can be great parents, better than most, but I think all children should ideally have a mom and dad who love them.
As a gay man, I will never be able to provide motherly love to a child. Yes, some people say love is love, but I think there is something to the kind of love that only a mother can provide. That said, I still want to adopt because I can give so much to a child who wouldn't have love otherwise.

I have seen you and Brian with McKenna and your nieces and nephews and you will be such a wonderful father.
Adoption isn't about depriving a child from his or her real parents--it's about giving a child a chance that he or she wouldn't have otherwise. It's a hard decision to make but it's usually the right one. It doesn't matter if their are two parents of the same or opposite sex who love a child or only one. What matters is that that child is loved and cared for.
No matter what happens, you will be such an amazing father because you have so much love to give. I have seen that and am sometimes envious because you are so caring and loving.
