A Future Conversation with my Son
"Dad," my teenage son will ask, "What did you do for fun when you were younger?"
Putting my arm around my son, I'll say, "Well, son, I spent my Friday nights making buttons with my friends Megan and Scott."
Rolling his eyes, my son will say, "Dad, you were such a loser."
Knowing he would say that, I would put my hand in my pocket and pull out a button I made on October 7, 2005, and say, "Look at these buttons and now tell me I'm a loser!"
"Dad," my teenage son will say, "I'm sorry. Those buttons are really cool. And you are your friends were really cool for making them on a Friday night."
Then he'll walk away mumbling something and laughing to himself.
