Election Day Politics
Today was election day! I always get excited even when it's not that exciting.
The only election in my area was Salt Lake City Council. The incumbent, a white-conservative-Mormon-male-Republican was running against a white-liberal-non Mormon-female-Democrat.
The white-liberal-non Mormon-female-Democrat had made some disparaging comments about Mormons that I didn't like, plus she sounded a little crazy in all the media interviews I heard. Everyone close to me knows that I don't like her. Yes, I voted for her in the primary, but that is only because I vote for the underdog in primaries.
After we went to our local elementary school to vote, this conversation took place as we were leaving:
Brian: It's stupid that we came to vote for only one thing.
Jesse: Some people think that's good. They're not confused by so many things.
Brian: Well, I didn't know any of the candidates and there were only two.
Jesse: Who did you vote for?
Brian: The woman.
Jesse: WHAT? Why did you vote for her?
Brian: Cause I didn't know who the other guy was. I've seen the lady's signs. Plus, I thought you'd be mad at me for voting for the man.
I think it's pretty funny that I voted for the white-conservative-Mormon-male-Republican and Brian voted for the white-liberal-non Mormon-female-Democrat. If you know Brian's politics, you'll find out that he's more conservative than I am!
