Bean and Bacon Soup
I stopped by my Grandparents house to drop off the pictures I developed yesterday and to pick up a note that my grandpa had for Dad.
We chatted for a few minutes before I asked them if they had any bean and bacon soup. I told them that I hadn't eaten lunch and it would be nice to eat with them. Grandpa told me that he did and that he'd go get it from their food storage.
When he emerged from the downstairs, he handed me a can. My grandma always puts a date on every food item she buys so she know's how old things are. This can of soup said, "March 2000." I opened the 5 year old can of bean and bacon soup and ate it. The soup was fine but I did not finish it all because it was a family size can. I left a half-full bowl of soup on their counter.
As my grandparents watched me eat, my grandmother indicated that she was thirsty. Grandpa went to get a cup and asked her what she wanted to drink.
"Anything," she told him.
My grandpa returned and gave the cup to my grandma. She took a sip and her eyes widened.
"Wendell, this is bean and bacon soup!" she exclaimed.
He started laughing and said, "Well, you said anything!" I thought it was really funny and can see where my father's and my humor comes from. I know I'll be pulling the same jokes on Brian when we're seventy.
