Dancing Queens
After my earlier fiasco, I was excited to do something fun. My friend Elise got married today and was having her reception at the SkyBar in downtown Salt Lake City.
Elise and I go all the way back to 2002. We were both attending BYU and were in the same ward. I was actually her home teacher and made monthly visits to her to teach her about the good teachings about the Mormon church.
Secretly, we both were not the goodie-two-shoes that we presented ourselves with. I was gay and she didn't believe in Mormonism. It wasn't until a friend of mine knew her and introduced us. Once we told the truth to each other, we've had so much more fun with each other!
When Brian and I got to the reception, we said hello to Elise and Ryan and talked to them for a bit. Brian got a Diet Coke for himself and a bottle of water for me. As we sat on a bench, Brian commented that the music the DJ was playing was actually pretty good. I said, "Let's dance!" and instead of complaining, he immediately got up. When I realized this, I told him I didn't want to dance because no one was on the dance floor.
That soon changed as I grabbed Elise's and Brian's hand and led them onto the dance floor. We were the only three in the whole bar dancing until her husband and some other people came to join us. It was really fun to be the first one dancing and having everyone else follow us. I told Brian that it took the two gay guys at the wedding for the party to finally start.
I had a blast dancing with Brian! He and I laughed because the two of us were dancing together in a straight bar. We danced for about 15 minutes and then sat down because they switched from cool 80's music to today's rap. Ew!
As we were sitting, Brian and I started discussing my desire to go out more in relation to his desire to stay in. Needless to say, it started turning into an argument. Because I was having such a fun night, I stopped our discussion so either of us wouldn't end up mad.
We left soon afterward and went home. I told Brian that I had lots of fun and I hope we could do it again sometime. We'll see how that goes...
