Flying to New York

One of the worst things about flying is getting to the airport early only to get through security in 5 minutes and having to wait two hours. I usually get to the airport an hour before my flight, but I didn't want to risk it this time (I think the show Airline scared me into it). Since it's the holiday season, I thought lots and lots of people would be at the airport.

My flight was at 1:07pm so I told Russell that I wanted to be at the airport at 11:00am. I didn't pack last night so this morning I rushed to get everything together. Thankfully, I made a list before going to bed last night of everything I needed. It really helped and I'm going to use the same technique when I fly to Mexico.

When we got to the airport at 11:30am, we went through security in 5 minutes and had to wait over an hour to get onboard a plane. I knew I should have done it my way!

We're waiting to get onboard.

For some reason, our tickets had Russell and I sitting on different rows: Russell a middle seat, me an aisle seat. I told Russell that we needed to find someone to switch seats with one of us so we could sit next to each other. A woman approached my aisle and told me that the middle seat was hers. When I politely asked her if she would switch seats with my brother, she curtly said no. As I was thinking about how awful this woman was, she said, "I want to sit next to my husband." I was embarrassed. Her husband had the window seat. Luckily, Russell convinced someone to switch seats with me.

The flight was fine. I read my book, "Theodore Rex" and Russell listened to his Ipod.

We had a layover in Chicago where we both got hungry. I wanted something quick and cheap so I suggested McDonald's. Russell was very much opposed to that idea and made me walk around the airport to find another source of food. Everything else was expensive so purchased food at the evil and abomidable fast food restaurant.

Everything was well and dandy until I started feeling ill. Yes, it was the McDonald's. I have sworn it off because it really is gross.

Then we took funny pictures of ourselves.

Yes, we both are dorks.

As we were waiting to board the plane, I found the "A" section of today's New York Times that someone had left behind. I picked it up and found nothing interesting to read. When I gave it to Russell, he found an article I missed. I immediately was mad at myself for not seeing it first. Ever since we were younger, Russell has been able to find good in something I've tossed aside. The article was about a boy with a webcam who sold images of himself on the internet from 13 years told until he was 17. It was really sad but eye-opening.

On our way to Rochester, I told Russell to look outside the plane at the constant bright light that seemed to never move and asked him what it was. He looked at it and was confused. We both laughed when I told him it was a light on the end of the airplane wing.

Dad picked us up from the airport and it took an hour and a half to drive home to Painted Post (near Corning, NY). The three of us had a fantastic time laughing at an experience Russell had two years ago. We spent Christmas in New York City and Russell kept complaining about how his crotch hurt and wanted to know why. Today, Dad finally filled him in on why: Russell really wanted to see his girlfriend and the crotch pain came from a constant erection. Russell said it was more embarrassing that Dad knew this than actually having the pain.

When we got home, Mom had sandwiches waiting for us. We stayed up until 1:43am just talking.

I'm glad to be home.
