The Skeletons Come Out
I have a friend (who will remain unnamed for this story) who works in the admissions office of the MBA program at the University of Utah. She received an application from someone from Flower Mound, Texas (my hometown) and called to tell me.
I didn't know the name my friend gave me, so I went to google and put in his name. I would normally link my findings, but I can't because everyone needs to remain anonymous.
His name appeared on a website for hair growth and he wrote, "Noticed temple recession and deterioration about 10 years ago, my barber mentioned I was losing my hair, and several friends also pointed it out to me, etc. After a while in denial, in the spring of 1998 I began a full time program of 5% Minox, Fina and Spiro and have continued to use this program."
My friend thought it was really funny that I found this applicant so easily and that got me thinking. Anyone who is applying to a school or even a job can be googled, and if the applicant has a website or blog, it could have positive or negative effects.
I've been googling people since 2000 and have found many bits of information on people. My most recent google search included everyone from my study abroad group and now I know one guy to stay away from because he's a right-wing nutjob.
I love google!
