"Being" with Russell and an Unexpected Call

Russell and I watched Sex in the City, Reno 911, and South Park for most of the day. We've had a lot of fun just hanging out and watching TV. It's exactly what I wanted to do all weekend.

Actually, I wanted to finish all my homework but I was having too much fun with Russell.

I received an unexpected call in the afternoon from my friend Dan Thatcher. I've written about him before. He was in town and wanted to hang out. While we are not particularly close, he is one of my most favorite people to spend time with.

We met at Sampan and I brought along Russell. Speaking of that: how can you tell someone that you are friends with (Russell) that you want to hang out with another friend by yourself? I wanted to spend time with Dan by myself, but I felt that Russell would feel badly if he wasn't invited. Confidential to Russell: I love you!

I was a bit nervous because I knew I'd have to bring up Dan's divorce. When I saw him, we hugged and said (as I was sitting down), "Hey, I was sorry to hear about the divorce." I hate people who don't bring up obvious subjects and I wasn't going to be one of those people. He appreciated my concern and started talking about why he and his wife divorced. I won't write the reason here, but it was an interesting one that I would never have expected.

We were later joined by Dan's friend Jeff and Jeff's girlfriend Britney. Jeff was a doctoral student in English at the University of California at Santa Barbara. I really liked him and didn't get the "you are so much better than me" feeling that I usually get around people like him.

After dinner, Russell and I went home and did the same thing we had been doing all day.
